Fringe Science, '06

Fringe: Science is a series of experiments that will begin during summer '06. The intention of the activities are to use elements of the scientific method (hypothesis and experimentation) to explore certain aesthetic ideas, while developing forms for these experiments that use the elements of the art gallery experience (the opening crowd, the trickle of visitors for the majority of the show, the focus of the gallery on the social, cultural and aesthetic) while providing visitors opportunities to participate in the experiments directly. It is a sort of experimental social software, and has been inspired by work at and by P.E.A.R., Fourmilab, Edmond Chouinard, Jack Houck, and others.

Toward this goal I am developing sensors (electrometers, E.L.F. detectors, electromagnetic coil sensors, Random Number Generators, and others), borrowing other's equipment, designing experiments, reproducing experiments, creating visualization/data logging protocols, and developing connections with researchers. Details, schematics, data, images, sounds, etc... will be avialable here as the piece develops.

*** The title "Fringe: Science" is not intended to imply disrespect, quite the opposite.
